"Our hearts are restless until they abide in the Lord" -St. Augustin

I think one of the main reasons that people travel is to satisfy the restlessness that often inhabits their innermost being. At least twice a year (usually January and October) I feel a primordial  urge to travel, to leave everything behind and find fulfillment. Obviously, this feeling stems from our soul, which is doomed to inhabit a fallen world as we journey to eternity and our ultimate fulfillment. Yet, endlessly searching the planet for a happier, more beautiful place is not a futile venture; in fact, by exposing oneself to the beauty of God's creation, one is able to comprehend the largess of the Creator. In addition, elements of God's "personality" (if that term can be applied to a deity) can be found all around the world, and they are not limited to cathedrals or monuments; He is present in the diverse cultures and customs that characterize our planet. Every instance of beauty and truth is a reflection of the Father. Travel is not a luxury, but indeed a necessity, a way for us to explore, to search, to experience.
